Some Sculpts

Hey all! Here's a stack of Zbrush sculpts!

First off the samurai characters from my thesis:

Next a Rengar (from League of Legends) for an art test with Riot Games:

That yeti monster:

This one was done for a workshop Hasbro put on back at Ringling. My goal was to sculpt an action figure: her joints are articulated, her (removable) quiver holds two little arrows, and she grips her bow. If this were actually produced... I'd want a little rubber band string on the bow... so you can shoot tiny arrows. :D

Sir Ian McKellen (I love his face):

An another samurai, a statue from the thesis:

More Paintings

As promised, here's some more work from the painting class I took last semester. The second half of the class we focused on landscapes which are like WHOA WAY MORE COMPLEX THAN STILL LIVES, which seems pretty obvious but it still really kicked my ass for a while, hahaha.

It was still super nice to get outside and paint, though. I'll try to keep it up this year (especially since I FINALLY get to experience autumn again!!)

Thesis!

Hey kids! I GRADUATED!!!
I'm officially a Ringling College Alumnus, and I'm heading up to Rhode Island this weekend to start working with Hasbro! I've got lots of plans for personal projects (portfolio-beefing and otherwise) in the coming year...

But first, how about a thesis??

The whole project took about a year-and-a-half, and was done by myself, Shannon Berke, and Max Golosiy. I was responsible for the temple environment in the first shots, the rainy village, and all the dead dudes who come back to life (the main dead general on the rock + garden/house env was done by Shannon, and the old samurai main character + castle env was done by Max).

Here's some cool stills of my stuff:

Paintings

Hi again.
I've been taking an observational painting class this semester, which is REALLY awesome as I haven't really painted much before and it's a lovely break from thesis.

Here's a midterm dump of paintings. I'll probably show off some more in a few months. c:

Updates

Hi all!
I like to think that I'm pretty good about this blog, but it's been a whiiiiile since I updated it. I have a good excuse though; all this year has been devoted to my senior thesis, and since I don't want to show that off until it is finished and I haven't had the time/classes for much else, I don't have anything to update with!

But I hate to abandon this place for the whole year, so here's a bit of art from over winter break and a bit of the last semester. C:

First, I had a Children's Book Illustration class last semester and made a 30 page children's book... here are a few pages that got finished up all the way (the rest mostly got just inked or sketched). It's a story about a little girl who makes pet rocks that come to life and follow her around.

Aaand here's a bit of silly fan art I did over winter break.  First, I got super-hyped over the game Bastion, and spent a couple days pumping out fan art like this:

And then as a Christmas present I drew my bf and my Skyrim characters kicking ass.

Hm... I've also been knitting a lot and trying to make perfect pork buns (it will never happen), but that's not so exciting to blog about.

Alright! Now that I'm back at school this is probably it from me until April.
See ya 'round!

Animated Monster!

Animated this guy for my last project in 3D this semester. Might go back and add in some sexy fog/spit particles coming out of his roar... that'd be sick.
But then this was a just-for-practice sort of thing.

Enjoy!

More Thesis Preproduction

Last bit from the end of the semester! Just a bit more of these samurai guys... gonna see how much of a head-start I can get on this thesis over the summer.

Samurai

Also here is some concept stuff.
I've been working with a team on some thesis ideas and preproduction, and we recently decided to go with this idea. I won't talk about it too much, but I will say that it's about ghost samurai and it's gonna be awesome.

Really getting excited about this concept! Expect to see more... for a very long time.

Finished Boss Monster!

Oh jeez! I've been cramming too much for too long and totally forgot to be keeping up with this blog. Also I suppose all of my art showing-off energy has been going into portfolios and WEBSITES!!

Anyway, finished up the 3D model of that boss character I was showing off forever ago.

Concept first!

And the final guy! Might be animating him, so maybe expect to see more of him.

Figure drawings

A bit overdue. I took a figure drawing class last semester, which was so lovely, and here's a bit of what I have to show from it.

Sir Ian

Next project was to sculpt/model, rig and animate a celebrity likeness or caricature! I chose to do a realistic sculpt of Ian McKellen.

Had a lot of fun with the high res sculpt, although... he started to get pretty creepy once I textured him. Uncanny valley ho!

This was still a good project for me though, because (besides learning how to animate faces) it made me realize that all the work I've done for school so far has been realistic-styled work. So, I'm going to try and make a more fun and stylized character for the next project, the boss character! Excitement!

Sweaters!

First assignment of the new semester! I am going to be in zBrush 24/7 and I am SO HAPPY.
Anyway, just a quick one week warm-up assignment:

Oh! Also my portfolio site is sort of done! I'll have to move it out of my free Ringling webspace eventually, but for now check it out!

Fantastic Environment

Last 3D project of the semester done! Winter break almost here! Almoooost theeeeere....

You may remember some nice concept art that I did for this project. Well that idea got mostly scrapped and I went with a new one! The assignment is still the same though: create an environment in the style of an existing game (still Uncharted 2). We wanted to take our environment somewhere that Uncharted had never been before (unlike my concept art), and ended up with some Chinese myths about the Tree of Life and islands were gods live and the like.

Blah blah blah. Have some pictures!

I worked with Max Golosiy on this project, again. The temple area that you see in the last screenshot is his area, although we shared a LOT of small assets this time around. I think that helped to make the setdressing much better and more realistically populated... easier to keep everything cohesive as well.

But here's some of the big important props I made for my area:

Onto second semester! Characters awwwww yessssss!!
